Thursday Night Race August 27, 2026
We are going to pull it together for one Thursday night race on August 27 (rain date Sept 3).
These races are open to beginners (must be 14 years old to race with a .22 rifle) as well as experienced biathletes. No experience is needed and first timers with no shooting experience are welcome. Race distance is usually 5 kilometers on a combination of dirt and pavement. Safety clinic, instruction and shared rifle use (rifles stay on the shooting mat) is available for novices. Registration is on SkiReg (open now). 5:00 to 5:30 PM safety clinic, zero 5:30 to 6:00 PM for experts, Race Start at 6:10 PM.
IMPORTANT - If you are sport class (novice) you will have to complete a safety clinic before you can race. These clinics will take about 30 minutes and will be offered at 5:00pm before the race. If you are late for the race night safety clinic you will not get to race. There is no charge for the safety clinic and you will get to do some shooting. Please email if you have any questions. ALSO VERY IMPORTANT! Speed is 20MPH on Base. If you are caught speeding we could lose our license. Thank you for going the speed limit.
You do not need to be a EABC member to enter the races! Just the weekly race fee.
First timer? What is it like? During the safety clinic you will be shown basic shooting technique in the prone position (lying down). The rifles always stay on the shooting mat during the race and most importantly - pointed at the targets. Each of the magazines holds 5 rounds (bullets). You will be shown how to insert the magazine and remove the magazine. Depending upon entrants, it is usually a mass start. The race starts with a running loop about 1.5 k which ends at the shooting range. You pick a shooting point with a rifle on it and take your 5 shots at the 5 targets after which you open the rifle bolt, lay the rifle down and head out on a second trip around the running loop. For every missed target, you will have to detour just after the range and run a 75 m penalty loop. Same shooting procedure when you get back to the range and then one final loop and finish in front of the timing building. The clock keeps running during the shooting and the penalty loops. Results are posted on the web site sometime that evening. Awards at the last race along with a pie raffle. Reach out with any questions. John Madigan (jpmad2013@yahoo.com).
The speed limit on base is 20 mph, it is very important to adhere to this as we are guests on base and this activity can lead to our lease being revoked
